Black Rubber Bumper Plates are fully rubber weight plates, designed for weightlifting, powerlifting, and cross training, and therefore built to withstand repeated barbell drops to the floor (hence the name bumper, meaning shock absorber). To ensure evenly distributed support and a consistent bar height from the ground, all Bumper Plates are manufactured with the same external diameter, conventionally set at 45 cm according to various federation standards. Due to its mechanical properties, synthetic rubber is the most suitable material for this type of plate.

The high-quality rubber—virtually odorless, with an excellent elastic coefficient and solid mechanical strength—guarantees exceptional durability even with the inclusion of the steel ring.

The steel ring, which protects the central hole, is the most economical and widely used construction solution, though it has the downside of causing greater wear around the center of the plate over time. However, this is a minor drawback, as Black Rubber Bumper Plates successfully withstand over 20,000 drop tests.
